As his great-grandfather was head gardener at London’s Kew Gardens, it is perhaps no surprise that Philip Glover seems to have inherited a flair for the floral.

His restaurant, Amanda’s Bistro, has been judged overall winner of this year’s Malmesbury in Bloom competition, after it entered the contest for the first time.

The Oxford Street eatery was initially named Best Commercial Premises, before going on to scoop the trophy for the finest overall entry in this year’s contest.

Mr Glover, who has run a variety of hotels and pubs, has been at the helm of Amanda’s Bistro for seven years.

He said: “I am really pleased about the competition. We change our floral display four times a year; once every season.

“I didn’t think we’d stand a chance, because there are so many lovely displays at the businesses here.”

Mr Glover added: “I suppose it is in my family really, as my great grandfather was head gardener at Kew.”
