Devizes couple to bid farewell to their narrowboat

Devizes couple Alan and Sarah Padwick will mourn the end of an era on Monday when they bid farewell to their canal boat.

The Queen of Sheba, which has given Mr and Mrs Padwick such pleasure over the last 17 years, will be craned out of the Kennet and Avon Canal on Monday morning on its way to a new home in Solihull, West Midlands.

The narrowboat has been a regular sight on the canal for many years moored at the end of the couple's garden in London Road.

Mr Padwick said: "After a 35-year career in the Royal Navy this was an extension of my life afloat and we will now have to adjust to being true landlubbers with a caravan instead of a boat."

The boat will be taken out of the canal at around 9am on Monday.
