Poulshot villagers give help to heroes

RAF officer Mark Baker has raised almost £1,600 for the services charity Help for Heroes.

Group Captain Baker, who was inspired to raise money for the charity after serving in Afghanistan last year, has been helped by friends near his home in in Poulshot.

On Saturday his latest fundraiser, a curry and karaoke night, was held at the Raven Inn in Poulshot. It made £450.

He said: “All my fundraising has been driven by friends and villagers. It’s fabulous seeing people pulling behind me and the charity.”

Group Captain Baker, 47, is taking part in the Big Battlefield Bike Ride in May which involves cycling 350 miles from Portsmouth and along battlefields of Northern France.

Help for Heroes is based in Tidworth and raises money to support wounded servicemen and women injured in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Group Captain Baker’s next fundraiser is a car wash on February 20 outside Poulshot Village Hall from 10am. To donate online visit www.bmycharity.com/markfbaker
