Four Devizes women are off to Africa but they will not be enjoying safaris or sightseeing.
Judy Dain, 61, Elaine Gale, 55, Margaret Bryant, 55, and Sally McClelland, 61, are bound for the Amani children’s home in Tanzania in July to help out.
The quartet are calling themselves the African Jems, after the initials of their first names, and will be holding a number of fundraising events to finance their travel.
The first of these is The Big Swap at Devizes Sports Club in London Road on February 13 from 11am. It costs £5 to register and then those taking part bring along between one and three accessories (belts, handbags etc) and swap them.
Mrs Bryant said: “All the money raised will go to the charity. We are covering our expenses ourselves. We have been told we must be prepared to arrive with a list of activities for the children, so we have been having meetings about what we can do.”
