WINE lovers Catherine Drage and Debbie Beaven are toasting their fundraising success after giving up drinking for one month during Dry January.

Friends and family told the pair that they wouldn’t be able to resist the alcoholic temptations but the determined duo managed 31 days sober.

During this time they endured birthday parties on orange squash and worrying family emergencies but did not waver from their mission for their chosen charity, Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Hollie Perryman, of WAA thanked the women for their donation of £630.31 and said: “Thank you both again for your amazing donation, support and determination, we truly appreciate it.”

Catherine Drage, 57, of Edwards Road, said:“I do enjoy red wine, and it was hard, especially at family events when everyone else is eating and drinking. At the stroke of midnight we began drinking water and continued the whole month until the first of February.

“I had tried to do this in the past but we always tended to stop a couple of weeks in. Raising cash for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance was a worthy local cause.”
