POLICE scoured the countryside around Green Lane psychiatric hospital in Devizes on Wednesday evening after the alarm was raised that a man in his 30s had gone missing from the site.
Hospital staff were concerned for his welfare and contacted police at about 5pm. An off road police vehicle took to the byways between Stert and Potterne and around six other vehicles were dispatched to the hospital including an unmarked police car that was seen arriving with its blue lights flashing.
A police spokesman said: "The man was located by an officer just after 6pm safe and well and was transported back to Green Lane."
