PROSTATE cancer sufferer Bruce Hopkins is hoping to push his fundraising for a charity researching the disease to new level this year.

Mr Hopkins, who for many years ran Devizes Fine Kitchens, is putting on two concerts featuring king of swing Asa Murphy from Liverpool who proved to be a big hit when he appeared in the town last year.

Tickets for the Saturday evening in the Ballroom at The Bear Hotel on July 28 have already sold out but Mr Hopkins is hoping he can also attract a full house for the Sunday afternoon performance on July 29 at 2pm.

He said: "Asa is bringing his swing quartet with him for the Sunday performance. It will be a very relaxed affair while the Saturday night will be more of a party with Asa getting everyone up to dance.

"Asa is in big demand at the moment. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool has asked him to perform at an event he is organising."

Mr Hopkins, 69, and his granddaughter Athena, ten, will also do a short set on the Sunday.

Last year Asa wowed the crowds in Devizes when he appeared at two charity concerts for Prostate Cancer Research and helped raise around £1,500 for the charity.

Mr Hopkins is also gearing up for what is likely to be his last big show in December. He said: "I want it to be really big and for people who I have performed with over the years to put in an appearance.

"I will still do some smaller gigs after that but this will be the last big one." Already signed up to play on December 15 in the Corn Exchange are the Heartbeats.
