AFTER spending night after night watching celebrities face all kinds of insects and critters on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, pupils at Devizes school were treated to their very own Bush Tucker Trial.
Year nine Food Technology pupils were given a lesson with a difference, as they tried chocolate coated crickets, locusts and fudge with meal worms.
Food Technology teacher Tabby Willis, said: “Year nine have been learning about sustainable proteins and how we will feed the growing population when it reaches nine billion people by 2050.
“As part of this, students have been tasting a selection of different insects to understand the role they will play in the future of our food.
“They responded really positively and identified different ways these bugs might replace meat in the foods we currently consume.”
The girls were braver than the boys when tasting the bugs, and pupils completed worksheets to describe the sensory properties of the critters they had eaten, and analyse them to work out which had the most nutrients.
