TWO stalwarts of Devizes Rotary Club have retired with more than 80 years service between them and honorary life membership.

Bill Carter and Ralph Flower have retired from active membership but they will remain part of the Rotary family for life.

President Alan Martin said: "The honorary membership was endorsed by every single member. Under my watch I could not allow two stalwarts to simply walk away from their friends and colleagues without acknowledging their long service and active membership."

Mr Flower joined Rotary in 1969 and twice served as president. In recent times he was Rotary's almoner and through a bi-weekly draw raised hundreds of pounds for the Foundation of Rotary International.

Mr Carter joined Rotary in 1983 and was president on three different occasions. He was also secretary for several years. In the early 1960 he had initiated the founding of Devizes Round Table.

Mr Martin said: "Both Rotarians were actively involved in Rotary’s events throughout their membership and only in recent months have they stood down from any responsibilities, paving the way for a well-earned rest. There is no doubt that many a younger Rotarian has benefitted from their wise council and generous friendship over many years."
