A 19-YEAR-OLD woman, who stabbed a man in the stomach with a kitchen knife in Devizes, has been handed a two year suspended sentence.

Sheralee Bracey, 19, of Corsham, was found guilty of stabbing an 18-year-old with a kitchen knife in Sidmouth Street last November, at Swindon Crown Court following a three day trial.

The court heard how an altercation had taken place at a house after Bracey returned home from a birthday celebration in the town centre with her friends. The victim was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his side, which required stitches and three days hospital care.

Detective Constable Kev Golledge said: “This was a really nasty attack which occurred following an evening of drinking at pubs in the town.

“It is fortunate that the victim was not more seriously injured, given the actions of Bracey on the night of the attack. She denied the offence throughout, pleading not guilty to the offence of GBH, meaning her victim has had to endure a three day trial.

“We will not tolerate violent crime in Wiltshire and will do all that we can to ensure a robust investigation is carried out resulting in individuals like Bracey being put before the courts and brought to justice.”

Bracey was also ordered to complete a 25 hour rehabilitation programme and fined £140.
