DEVIZES School is celebrating another record breaking year for A-level results following its success in 2016.

Headteacher Phil Bevan said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the A-level results this year at Devizes School. It is another year of breaking records.

"Devizes School has a long and proud history of producing excellent A-level grades. We are delighted with the results in terms of the strong levels of attainment, 73per cent of grades achieved were A*-C; our progress is even higher than 2016’s record breaking year.

"Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the students, they have shown a first-class commitment to their studies and to thank all the staff and Leadership for working so hard and passionately to enable this success to happen.

"Like other years there are many fabulous individual successes meaning that so many students are fulfilling their ambitions of securing sought after university places and apprenticeships.

"Some of our highest performing students include Ellie Campbell: 3 A*s and an A, with a well-deserved place at Cambridge to do Natural Sciences. Chris Thomas: 3A*s and and is off travelling/doing sporty things for a year. Olivia Burness, A*, A*, A, off to York to do English. Alice Gale: A*, A B off to do Religion and Theology at Cardiff. Fantastic progress from Brandon Thorn with 2 Distinction*s and a C, off to do Forensic Computing and Security at Bournemouth.

"We are incredibly proud of the students’ overall performance. This translates into an excellent set of school results.

"We have achieved a 99.6 per cent pass rate. The percentage of ‘top grades’ A*-B achieved by our students this year is an impressive 45 per cent 73 per cent of students achieved at least one grade at A*-B which is a new school record.

"The performance indicator that best represents the overall achievement of post-16 students is the Average Points Score (APS) per entry. This year we have achieved 223 pts, beating our target of 206 pts by an impressive 17 points.

"In 2016 Devizes Sixth Form was rated in the top 4 schools in Wiltshire for Progress. This has improved even further this year – with students on average achieving at least half grade higher than their targets. In many subjects including maths and the sciences students, on average, achieved over a grade higher than their targets.

"I personally have been hugely impressed by the fact that 91% of our students achieved at least one A*-C grade; this clearly demonstrates the depth of talent and achievement in our sixth form. Two other headlines stand out for me; the success of our most-able students in achieving the top grades, another outstanding year; and the progress and subsequent value added made by the majority of students, consistently across all subjects, again demonstrating how successful Devizes School is in providing a high-quality education that helps develop such fine young people.

"As we enter an exciting new era for our Sixth Form with Clare Dale taking over as Head of Sixth Form, we know that we are building on very strong foundations and we must thank Glyn Evans for this fantastic legacy.

"I wish all our students every success in the next exciting part of their journey."
