DEVIZES Scooter Club has raised more than £700 for Devizes & District Opportunity Centre following its family fun day at The Cavalier pub on Saturday, July 8.

The fundraiser was the first of its kind to be held by the club and saw visitors enjoy a barbecue, cakes and refreshments, a raffle, children’s fair games, face painting, a scooter meet and live music from local band Easily Led and a DJ, all while helping to raise £446 for the opportunity centre.

The money will be added to a further £267 that the club raised from a recent ride to the New Forest.

Organiser Adam Ford said: “I think the day went well and we’re pleased to have raised the money for the opportunity centre.

“You never know what to expect the first time you hold something like this, and we only have a small club budget, but over 100 people came along and we’ve had good feedback.

“We were lucky with the weather which definitely helped!

“We chose to raise money for the opportunity centre because it helps local people and we know where the money is going – a lot of people support bigger charities so we wanted to choose something where we could see our money having an impact.

“The fun day and ride to the New Forest were our first fundraisers but we’re already planning more; we’ll take lessons from the fun day this year and come back bigger and better next summer!”
