THERE was plenty of satisfaction and a dash of brown sugar when staff at a Devizes supermarket staged a bake off contest judged by the lead singer from a Rolling Stones tribute act.

Sainsbury's staff and customers chose Devizes Opportunity Centre to be its charity of the year and the store is holding a number of fundraising events for the nursery in Bellevue Road.

On Tuesday it held its own version of Bake Off and Mark Smallman better known to some as Mick Jogger from the Rolling Clones band took on the Paul Hollywood role. A total of £140 was raised.

Store manager Julian Collier said: "A number of staff made cakes and they were judged on taste and presentation. Afterwards they were sold to other colleagues.

"We are holding a number of small fundraising events so over the course of the year all of the money adds up to a good amount. We are hoping to raise about £1,000 in total. The opportunity centre does a wonderful job and we are very pleased to be supporting it."

The winning chocolate cake was made by customer services assistant Rachel Gillett who was rewarded with a box of chocolates.

The opportunity centre looks after children from nought to five who have a wide range of learning and medical conditions. It only received about half of its £150,000 a year running costs from grants from Wiltshire Council and central government and needs to make up the rest from donations and fundraising.
