CELEBRATED trombone player Kevin Morgan is helping Devizes Town Band prepare for one of its most challenging concerts ever.

Mr Morgan, who plays with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, led a brass workshop on Monday at St James Church, Devizes, to help people prepare for A Space Encounter.

The show will be performed in The Corn Exchange on April 24 and musical director Sharon Lindo says it will be a spectacular but challenging concert.

Band chairman and trumpet player Kelvin Nash said: "Our season opener this year is entitled A Space Encounter, taking the audience on a musical and visual journey through man’s endeavour to reach the stars.

"It promises to be very exciting, but for those of us in the brass sections of the band, it will be a particular challenge, so Kevin’s work with us has been invaluable and most welcomed. It’s been great."

Ms Lindo said: "I’ve been wanting to start focussed sectional workshops with the band for some time and with 2017 promising to be another great year for us, I wanted to secure someone of Kevin’s calibre before we got too far in to the year.

"There’s a real buzz in the band at the minute, and I wanted to maximise on that. I’m therefore really delighted that Kevin agreed to come in before our April concert, especially as I know he’s busy, professionally."

Tickets for A Space Encounter will go on sale in Devizes Books from March 2017. Anyone interested in joining the band should email: secretary@devizestownband.com
