A SECOND open day to raise money to restore a giant painting which hangs in Devizes School will once again give people a chance to see parts of the building not usually open.

A similar event last year raised around £1,200 but another £800 is needed to pay for the cleaning work and a picture light to show the painting off to its best advantage.

The large 18th century painting by John Vanderbank got a national audience when it was shown to millions of people on BBC's Antiques Roadshow held at Bowood.

The open house on April 29 will run from 10am to 3pm and will include tours of the attics with antiques expert Marc Allum and the cellars with Devizes historian John Girvan.

Old yearbooks will be on display and refreshments including homemade cakes will be for sale.

Entrance to the event is free but donations will be welcome.
