STUDENTS at Devizes School have raised more than £900 for the local branch of a charity which helps families with loved ones that suffer from motor neurone disease.

Member of Teresa House chose the north Wiltshire group of MND to support and held a wide range of activities including cake sales and non uniform days to raise £928.80 for the charity.

Alison Aviss chairman of the north Wiltshire group visited the group to be presented with a cheque by pupils. In turn she presented PE teacher Blake Raymond, who was deputy head of Teresa House when the MND charity was selected, with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Ms Aviss said: "The funds we raise in north Wiltshire group go to support local families affected by MND and this year to date we have given £12,634 in grants for stairlifts, specialist equipment, assistance with home adaptations all designed to help people live at home and with dignity.

"We have also given grants for quality of life for short holidays to give carers and family members a break from the stresses and strains that this disease brings.

"The donation of £929.80 from the school, goes very nearly to the cost of us providing a stair lift for a family and in this year we have funded eight installations."

She said she was impressed with the efforts of the Devizes students and hoped it would inspire other schools to do the same.
