TWO days of festive fun came to Sidmouth Street, Devizes when traders held a winter festival to highlight the newly regenerated corner of the town.

On Friday the road was at the centre of the build-up to the lantern parade and Christmas light switch-on as Albion Place played host to Santa's grotto and mulled wine and hot dogs were for sale.

The following day the road was closed to traffic all day so entertainment and fun could take centre stage. Music was provided by Devizes Town Band and rock groups.

Author and vet Sarah Hill, who lives in Wiltshire and is best known for her Whimsy Wood series, gave readings from her books to the delight of audiences young and old.

Iain Wallis secretary of Sidmouth Street Traders Association said: "This year we provided fairground rides, mulled wine, mince pies, and hotdogs for the lantern parade on the Friday night.

"Father Christmas was also resident in Albion Place throughout the afternoon, many people are posting their 'selfies with Santa' on the Sidmouth Street Facebook page. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves in the street.

"Saturday saw another day of top notch entertainment including the town band, hits from the musicals, and two great Rock bands."

Among the traders taking part were Sassy Chic which opened earlier this month selling soft furnishings and other homeware.

Mr Wallis thanked the traders, sponsors, Devizes Town Council and Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts for their support.

He is now looking for more committee members for the traders group as three of the founders are stepping down after being involved in four street festivals.

He said: "The remaining committee members would welcome any other traders in Sidmouth street, and the wider town, who would like to get involved with organising events in Sidmouth Street or join us in helping other similar events to get started in Devizes."
