AFTER octogenarian Maggie Brooke could not make her granddaughter's big day in London the couple decided to bring the celebration to her in Devizes.

Mrs Brooke, 85, had to miss the actual wedding in London in September but on Saturday she enjoyed the next best thing when granddaughter Nicola did it all over again with a blessing at her gran's care home.

Staff at Hayward Care Centre in Corn Croft Lane helped make the occasion special by helping Mrs Brooke bake a cake for a party with relatives and friends from the home.

Care home admin assistant Elaine Booth, who joined in the celebration, said: "Maggie loved every minute of it. It was wonderful that they were able to have the blessing here and she could join in."

Mrs Brooke's daughter Liz Kindner, who lives in France, and Nicola's other grandmother Mary Kindner also made the trip to Devizes for the celebration.

The Rev Keith Brindle from St James, Church, Devizes carried out the blessing in the coffee shop of the care home.

After the blessing widow Mrs Brooke and the wedding party went for a special lunch and then returned to Hayward for the cutting of the cake.

Mrs Booth said: "Everyone joined in and it was a lovely occasion. It was a very happy day."

She had missed the original ceremony on September 17 in Islington as she felt it was too far to travel but was delighted when she was able to see the couple enjoy their blessing.

Her granddaughter wore her wedding dress and Mrs Booth also put on her party clothes for the occasion.
