MUM Samantha Hildreth braved the shave in front of a whole school to raise money for charity.

Mrs Hildreth, who is a member of the Friends of Southbroom Infants in Devizes, raised nearly £1,000 for Macmillan cancer support by going under the razor.

Her own son Oliver was one of the children watching at the special assembly on Monday. Danny Ryan from Mikey's barbershop in Devizes was in charge of making sure the shave went smoothly.

Mrs Ryan said: "He was just as nervous as I was but he did us all proud and done a great job. It was a very emotional event. More emotional than I was expecting.

"I even had an email today from a parent whose two daughters goes to the school saying that they were so impressed on why I was doing this and now want to also do something to help people who are sick."

The charity The Little Princess Trust will also benefit from the shave as Mrs Hildreth has donated her hair so it can be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Mrs Hildreth said: "At the moment I'm wearing a scarf on my head I can't believe how cold I feel now.

"It's surprising how something like this can effect ones emotions. I am proud that I have done something that not many ladies would do by choice, deep sadness, naked, depressed and feeling quite vulnerable.

"For someone who is going through cancer treatment and all these feeling I am going through it must be unimaginable. Those who come through their cancer and have the all clear - they are the amazing brave people not me. I just helped to raise awareness and a few pennies.
