WOULD-BE teachers have started their training at Devizes School after it received Government approval to run its own courses.

Six students from Bath Spa will be at the school three times a year to work with the science department as part of the School Led Teacher Training programme.

Devizes science teacher Julie Jones said: "Each will work with Year 7 students, planning, teaching and reflecting on their lessons with the help of Science staff, this will form part of their PGCE training at Bath Spa University.

"Devizes Science has been asked to help lead this portion of training as we were recognised as strongly supporting trainees in science last year. The science department is proud to work with these trainees as it keeps the staff fresh and up to date with teaching, we learn from observing them too and feeding off their enthusiasm.

"We also work closely with the NWSCITT for Science so will hopefully have 12 science trainees who will work in the department for various periods of this academic year.

"Our school is a place of learning for students and teachers too."
