DEVIZES School's headteacher and England rugby player Jonny May had plenty to chat about when the sportsman gave out awards as he was once taught science by Phil Bevan.

The Gloucester and England player was in Devizes to give out awards to top PE students but ten years ago he was a pupil at Ridgeway School, Wroughton when Mr Bevan worked there.

Mr Bevan said: "I taught both Jonny and his sister over 10 years ago at The Ridgeway School. My clearest memory is being Jonny's Y11 Science Teacher.

"He was a really bright student, and always very energetic. He was competitive at all sport in school, and we knew that he was a talented rugby player. After leaving school he really dedicated himself to improving and also grew a lot.

"I am delighted at his success as a Gloucester and England rugby player. It was great to meet him again and see how he has managed his success with good grace and humility. I am also pleased to say that he did pass his GCSEs in Science."

Parents and students were invited to the awards evening organised by head of PE Ali Lund. Mr May did a question and answer session at the end of the evening.

A school spokesman said: "Students were awarded for their performance and excellence throughout the school year, this included current students and those who left in the summer."
