WAR correspondent Rageh Omaar will be in Devizes next month to talk about his experiences reporting from some of the world's most dangerous places.

Mr Omaar will be at the Corn Exchange on November 2 from 7.30pm as a guest of Devizes Arts Festival for its autumn event.

During his talk titled An Ever-changing World he will share his experiences of covering high profile world events and crises.

Mr Omaar, 49, who was born in Somali risked death during the Iraq war when he stood on a hotel rooftop in Baghdad and kept television audiences in touch with the latest action.

He won admiration for his cool-headed dispatches during the aerial bombardments of the invasion and became a household name.

He is currently ITV's international affairs editor and is responsible for covering major news stories across the globe and has won numerous international awards including a Peabody Award for his reports for the BBC from Darfur and a BAFTA for the BBC’s coverage of the invasion of Afghanistan in which he was the only western TV journalist to report from inside Taliban-held Kabul.

The first Festival autumn event was held last year when Michael Portillo entertained a packed Corn Exchange and the organisers hope this will become an established date in the Festival calendar.

It follows a record breaking Festival summer programme at the box office with increases in both the number of tickets sold and takings.

Tickets for Ragah Omaar at £15 are available on line at www.devizesartsfestival.org.uk or from Devizes Books: 01380 725944 (9.00am- 5.30pm Monday to Saturday)
