WILTSHIRE-based solicitors Goughs has just raised more than £6,000 for Julia’s House from a charity golf day, after choosing the children’s hospice as the firm’s charity of the year.

The law firm held its seventh annual golf day at Cumberwell Park Golf Club in Bradford on Avon this month. More than 100 golfers from a number of Wiltshire businesses took part, raising £6,500 in total to donate to the charity.

As well as attracting a large number of Wiltshire business people, the firm welcomed celebrity guests Lee Probert, the Premier League referee, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Kenny Hibbitt and Matt Banahan, the Bath Rugby and England centre.

Martin Lang, senior partner at Goughs Solicitors, said: “The whole day was a huge success and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by everyone involved. Not only did we get to play the finest golf course in Wiltshire on the sunniest September day on record but, with the help of our guests, we have raised a magnificent sum for Julia’s House that will help ensure that the charity can open its new hospice in Devizes on time next year, for the benefit of the local community here in Wiltshire.”

After 27 holes of golf the day concluded with a presentation dinner and charity auction. The auction, expertly conducted by auctioneer Stuart Collar-Brown, contained a lot of generous donations from the local Wiltshire business, all in aid of Julia’s House.

“We are delighted that Goughs Solicitors are supporting Julia’s House as their charity of the year. On top of the many fantastic fundraisers they have already held, the golf day was a huge success. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the event and we thank everybody involved for their generosity,” said Ian Wadley, Wiltshire fundraising manager for Julia's House.

Goughs chose Julia’s House to be its charity of the year at the beginning of 2016, choosing to support the work the charity does as well as help towards the new hospice in Devizes.

Emma Taylor, a partner at Goughs, said: “As a new mum myself I can only imagine how hard it must be for parents of a life-limited child and I think this resonated with everyone within the firm. We are dedicated to raising these essential funds to enable Julia’s House to continue to provide such incredible levels of care and support, not only for the child, but for the whole family.”
