PUB regular Sharon Cridland braved the shave to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as people cheered her on at the Hour Glass in Devizes.

Ms Cridland, 51, of White Horse Way, Devizes, recruited Chris Bullock, who runs Chris's barbershop in Marlborough, to wield the clippers on Friday but her partner Justin Mellows also leant a hand.

She has now raised £320 from donations on the day and money put into a collecting box on the bar over the previous two weeks.

Pub manager Steve Chapman said: "She is a regular of ours and asked if she could do the shave here. We were happy to oblige. There were between 30 and 40 people watching."

Ms Cridland said she wanted to have her head shaved in support of many people she knew who had suffered from cancer including her parents who both died from the disease.

Her mum died from breast cancer when Ms Cridland was 20 and her dad died of prostate cancer when she was 40.

She said: "I wanted to do it in memory of my parents but I know a lot of other people who have also been affected by cancer and my partner has also lost both of his parents to it."

She thanked the pub and regulars for their support.

She said: "Many many thanks to the landlord and lady of this great pub who welcome all and provided an area to to do this and for the awesome food provided. Thank you very much also to Mr Chris Bullock for providing his services."
