DEVIZES Mayor Jane Burton got in the swing of Autumn In The Park when she took part in a welly wanging contest.

Mrs Burton and many others were in Hillworth Park on Sunday for a free family event of old fashioned fun.

She was joined by her daughter and fellow town councillor Sarah Bridewell and grandson Owen Bridewell as they tried their luck at flinging boots across the grass at the park in Queens Road,

Youngsters were able to clamber over a variety of giant tractors and pretend they were farmers for the day.

Others took advantage of the free bouncy castle to enjoy fun in the sun. Also on hand were a menagerie of farm animals so children could get up close and personal to the livestock.

Robert Carpenter from Kennet Beekeepers Association ran a stall to tell people about the joys of keeping your own bees and making honey.

He was also publicising the annual honey show of the Wiltshire Beekeepers Association which is being hosted by the Kennet group at The Corn Exchange, Devizes on October 22.

Teresa Steele from the Devizes branch of SANDS a charity which helps families who have suffered a still birth or neo-natal death, also had a stand.

Mrs Steele, who suffered a still birth seven years ago, is fundraising for a memorial to be put in the park where people can go and gain some comfort.

When she launched the campaign last year she said: "We want it to be in a public place where whole families can go. Hillworth Park seemed like an ideal location and we have had a lot of support from the town council."

Devizes group which meets on the last Thursday of every month at St James Parish Rooms from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
