FAMILIES from Devizes tried their hands at the stove at the opening of the Netherstreet Farm Cookery School, which drew a large crowd to take part in the fun.

Mayor of Devizes Jane Burton was there on Friday to open the cookery school, which is run by Gretchen Winter, 44, of Netherstreet Farm, Bromham.

Mrs Winter said: “The opening was great, we had a lot of local businesses involved, and we had a lot of positive feedback. Staff from Times Square, Pinkbox Boutique and more came along to show off their skills and products.

“We had a cooking demonstration by the children, the older ones did a noodle dish, then the eight-year-olds cooked a spaghetti bolognese and the little ones made little cakes. They all did a great job. We had over 60 cars in the car park at one point so it did get very busy,” said Mrs Winter.

The positive feedback from the first open day has given Mrs Winter hope that the new school will prove to be a success with the local community.

“It was a lovely day, we had people come in who may usually just walk past. Next time I am hoping to have an adults' cooking demonstration. We are fully licensed so I think it will work very well,” she added.
