IT’S a classic BMW, has 75,000 miles on the clock and drives like a dream but when it goes under the gavel next week for thousands of pounds it will be because the legendary Sir Terry Wogan was once the proud owner.

The green three-door 8 Series with light grey nappa leather trim is expected to catch the attention of bidders from around the world when it goes up for auction in Swindon next week.

Auctioneers Kidson-Trigg has given it an estimated price tag of between £8,000 and £15,000 and bidding is expected to start at £7,000.

Pippa Kidson-Trigg, director of the business, says that Sir Terry bought it for his wife Lady Helen in 2006 and they owned it for around seven years. It was first registered to BMW Bracknell in 2005.

But the late TV and radio personality, who died aged 77 in January, is not the only illustrious past owner as it was also once kept by the renowned furniture maker and chairman of the auction house Christie's UK, Viscount Linley.

“It’s a car with great provenance,” said auctioneer Pippa.

"I grew up with Terry listening to the radio on the way to school. Obviously he sadly passed away this year, so the car is rather special. He was such a great guy. He was loved by so many people.”

Pippa, who is expecting hundreds to be bidding online throughout the day of the 500-lot auction, came to acquire the car after being contacted by a buyer.

“They had bought it off a friend and he thought someone might want to snap it up,” she added.

“It's all working and lovely to drive and was recently MOT’d. There is a comprehensive service history file including old MOTs and tax discs, the original stamped service handbook and spare key.

“It is a future classic for sure, it is a rare opportunity to find a low mileage example of this sought after exciting Grand Coupe.”

The motor has also been tipped by Piston Heads magazine this month to be the next car that will soar in value and could be worth £30,000 in 10 years.

ONE of Sir Terry Wogan's final TV engagements was in Wiltshire. In March last year Sir Terry had the people of Devizes eating out of his hand when he and London cabbie Mason McQueen spent the day in town for the new show Terry & Mason's Great Food Trip.

His car will be among hundreds up for auction on Tuesday from 10am to 3pm. People are also invited to view the items from 10am to noon on Sunday at the auction house near Highworth.

There will also be the chance to snap-up two huge models orca, or killer whales, that were found in a garden in Bishopstone after being won in a charity auction in Vancouver.

They are expected to fetch around £200 to £400 each. There is also a postbox and some vintage street lamps from Regent Street, London, as well as jewellery and silverware.
