PUPILS of Southbroom Infants School tried their hand at baking last week as part of a school bake-off competition.

Organised by the Friends of Southbroom Infants (FOSI), the event took place on Friday, with more than 20 entries competing to see who would be crowned the bake-off champion.

Lucie Glander, 32, secretary of the FOSI, said: “We invited parents and carers along to take part in the day. There were five main categories and an overall winner which was Lewis from Bats Class.

"On the day everyone brought their entries into the hall and Peter Vaughan from The Bistro came in to judge them all. He did a brilliant job in telling the children what sort of thing he was looking for. Peter also gave tips on cooking before choosing the winners from all the categories.”

After the judging had taken place, the cakes were then sold to people to raise money for special events for the children.

Mrs Glander said: “FOSI do events like this for the school so it can pay for taking the children on trips. Last time we held a similar event it paid for a coach to take the children to see a pantomime. Last year was the first bake-off the school had and it proved to be so popular that we did it again this year.

“I think we will do it again next year, everyone involved found it to be good fun. We are now looking to our next event which will be our summer fair.”
