A show-jumping team from a Wiltshire school is riding high after beating teams from across the country to win a national final at the prestigious Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday.

The pupils of Dauntsey's School, West Lavington, near Devizes won the National Schools' Equestrian Association final after all four jumped fast clear rounds.

Ophelia Straker, 17, Lauren Dallison, 15, Elizabeth McNamara, 13, and Amber Fletcher, 13, took on teams from 21 other schools who had qualified at events around the country.

The Dauntsey’s team had beaten 20 schools to win their qualifying round at West Wilts Equestrian Centre in March.

They had been trained by Olympic medallist Lucinda Fredericks from Little Cheverell who is also a Dauntsey's parents and Dauntsey's geography teacher and former British team eventing member, Lucie McNichol, who accompanied them to Windsor.

After winning the team was escorted back to the lorry park by a smartly uniformed and mounted Queen's Guard.

Dauntsey's headmaster Mark Lascelles said: “Well done to all the girls. This will certainly help to put our lovely little school in Wiltshire on the map.”

The same team has qualified for the NSEA Arena Eventing championships at Hickstead on June 3rd.
