A SMALL village school is living out its own football giant killing dream and is hoping its fairytale will have a happy ending when it plays at the Leicester City ground later this month.

The team from All Cannings, near Devizes hopes it can mirror Leicester's incredible run to become Premier League champions when it plays at the King Power Stadium on May 23 in the National Football Finals.

All Cannings has won tournaments at regional, county and south of England level to qualify for the final. Its road to Leicester started last when the team won a penalty shoot-out in the Devizes area contest and later went on to win the county competition at Stanley Park in January.

The school then represented Wiltshire in last Saturday's south of England school tournament playing teams from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Somerset.

Headteacher and coach Richard Borman said: "Despite having to play the whole tournament with no subs and one of the players having tonsillitis, superb performances from the whole team saw them finish in the top two which means they will now go on to play teams from across the country as they represent the South of England.

"The boys have been keenly watching Match of the Day over the last few weeks, with Leicester becoming their second team."

Captain Harrison Sartin said: "I watched them play and then being presented the Premier League trophy and get their medals on Sunday and I can’t believe that in less than two weeks’ time that I will be there, playing on the pitch, perhaps even scoring."

Mr Borman said: "Having coached school football for over twenty years I can honestly say this is the best squad I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They have a great attitude and always play with a smile on their face. In a small school, teams often grow and develop together and having trained and played as a team for nearly three years, this will be a memorable way of finishing their time as a team with half of them moving on to secondary school at the end of the year."
