A production of Les Miserables by Devizes Musical Theatre Footlights at St. Mary’s Church, Devizes, has proved a winner.

The young cast left audiences spell bound and praise also went to the live orchestra led by Musical Director Naomi Ibbetson and a technical team who built a revolving stage.

Audience member Graham Day said: "This allowed the full emotional intensity of the barricade scenes in particular to be played out in full, as the audience was able to view the action both in front of and behind the barricade.

"It is difficult to believe that a cast composed entirely of teenagers and some even younger delivered the whole performance, such was their dexterity in switching between moments of heart-rending emotion and laugh-out-loud comedy."

Everyone involved paid credit for assembling, tutoring and inspiring the group to director Lucy Kibby and producer Simon Hoy.

Mr Day said: "The show was sold out on Saturday evening when I attended and I understand attendances at all five shows were excellent. There were many proud performers, parents, friends, and supporters of live musical theatre in St. Mary’s on Saturday evening – quite rightly so, as we had all just experienced something very special.

"Devizes has some amazingly talented young people and the effort and commitment they bring to their creative outlet in Footlights is inspirational."
