HFT Rowde hosted a Talk Like a Pirate Day for residents and visitors last week.

The organisation, which assists those with learning difficulties and helps them to live either independently or supported, on Furlong Close, Rowde, held the fundraising day with a twist to raise money for the people they support.

Lisa Waters, administration assistant at HFT Rowde, said: “The day started at 12.30pm on Friday (October 2) and everyone joined in by dressing up and having fun. There were teams of people playing games and having a jolly good time, there was food laid on by our produce and kitchen staff, and everyone volunteered to make it a great day.

“Approximately 60 people arrived to join in the swashbuckling fun and raised £114, this was from food sales, pirate key rings which were made on site and the entry to the games. All the money raised goes towards the people we support here at Furlong Close to buy new garden furniture, benches, etc, and to provide them with some extras as and when needed.

“We have some other dates coming up which is a Curry & Quiz night on the 16th October 7.30pm start bring your own drink on the night, and a Christmas Bazaar, on the 20th November 5pm – 9pm free entry, and also we will be holding a Christmas crafting workshop in Nov/Dec.”
