TALENTED singer Gabriella Eels has won a music scholarship to join the sixth form of Wells Cathedral School.

Gabriella, 16, from Sandridge near Bromham has been a stalwart of the choir at St John's Church, Devizes.

Director of music at St John’s Chris Totney said: "Gabbie has been fantastic for us in so many ways during these last few years. She has performed several iconic solos, including the much loved O for the wings of a dove, and has been a terrific role model to the younger children in the choir.

"We are sorry to lose her but she joins a long line of people who have started out in this choir and gone on to pursue music at a higher level."

Gabriella, who was a pupil at Grittleton House near Malmesbury, has spent the past year as head chorister of the acclaimed Devizes choir, where 20 boys and girls lead the services every Sunday morning, supported by 14 adult singers.

Her final act before stepping down saw go on tour to Cornwall with her fellow members during the summer holidays, where they gave a concert in Penzance and sang two services in Truro Cathedral.

The choir is just about to start its autumn term and is looking to recruit more singers from the age of 14 upwards to join the alto, tenor and bass lines. Anyone interested should telephone Chris Totney on (01672 562886) or email christotney@gmail.com.
