Devizes School was today celebrating some of its best ever A level results as nearly all students got their first choice university place.

Headteacher who retired at the end of the summer term but does not officially leave his post until the end of the month was back in Devizes to join in the excitement.

He said: "We are all tremendously pleased that all the hard work has paid off. The results are very good and it is lovely to go out on a high."

The school achieved an average point per entry score of 221 which was up on last year's score of 218 and 70 per cent pass rate with A* to C grades. The A* to B per cent score for this year was 45 per cent compared with 39 per cent last year. 

Among those who were celebrating top results were Heidi Kinerman who got an A* for history and As in English Language, biology and health and social care.

Finn Burge got A* for RS, A for English Literature, A for Drama and B for History.

Emily Hutchinson got A for biology, A for chemistry and B for maths.

Henry Claride is off to Bath University to study maths and physics after getting A for Chemistry, A* for Maths,  A* for physics and B for further maths.

He said: "I worked very hard so I am pleased with the results."

Katie Sims is going to Bath Spa to study fine art after getting a distinction* in art, IT and applied science.

Victoria Handley is to study primary education at Winchester after getting a distinction* in business, an A in English Literature and an A in health and social care.

She said: "I am very pleased and relieved."

Elliott Hayward got distinction*s in science, sport and business and is off to Winchester to study criminology.

He said: "I was very excited and relieved to get my results and my place."

Molly Dilling is going to Portsmouth to study law after getting an A in English Language and Cs in History and psychology.
