FORMER Mayor of Devizes Sarah Bridewell has presented cheques worth £7,500 to three causes that help people in the town that she loves.

She gave £4,000 to Devizes branch of the British Heart Foundation, £2,500 to the Devizes based Bag4Sport Foundation and £1,000 to Devizes Foodbank.

She said: "With the British Heart Foundation I have enough to buy two defibrilators and a few resuscitation kits for schools.

"The children of primary school age will be incorporating the life saving techniques when the new academic year begins."

Bag4Sport Foundation will use its money to support athletes such as Judo player Tom Reed who despite representing Great Britain receive little or no Lottery funding.

Money donated to the foodbank will help it buy items that are not donated and to provide more food parcels.

Mrs Bridewell said: "Many thanks must go to those who donated or participated in events during my term without their assistance none of this would be possible."

Mrs Bridwell, who was Mayor in 2014/15, raised the cash through a number of fundraising events including a ball and a quiz.
