PEOPLE in Seend will be putting on the style on August 8 when a fancy dress parade will get the village fete off to a flamboyant start.

Children, adults and groups are encouraged to take part in a fancy dress competition complete with cash prizes before joining in the parade at 12.45pm on Lye Field.

Will Trickett, a friend and advisor to Kevin McCloud on his show Man Made Home, who lives in the village, will join the Seend princess to cut the ribbon to declare the fete open and help judge the fancy dress.

There will be fun to keep all the family amused throughout the afternoon including a theatre show featuring a giant inflatable lobster, a one man act and a puppet show.

The fun dog show including a new feature called ignore the sausage will be staged at 3pm.

Fete chairman Jo McManus said: "We have all our usual traditional stalls, including our huge and famous white elephant, and this year we also have falconry, a mobile farm, a fire engine, an organ grinder, a giant bouncy castle, a merry go round and some model train rides.

"We have lots of vintage cars, engines and antique machinery for the grown-ups so there will be something for everyone."

An added attraction will be a food and drink village full of refreshments including Pimms. Seend Primary will be doing Wiltshire cream teas.

Coinciding with the fete will be the village's sister event the Seend Flower Show at the community centre in Rusty Lane.

It has a total of 174 classes and exhibits will be on show to the public from 1pm to 5.30pm. Certificates and trophies will be presented at 4.30pm.

Two separate age-defined sections are for children only, and there are art displays from local schools.

Entry to the fete is free while spectator entry to the flower show is £1 with 14 and unders free.
