POLICE are appealing for witnesses to two accidents in the Devizes area on the same afternoon.

In the first a blue Ford Fiesta mounted the kerb outside Emily's Tea Rooms in Maryport Street between 1.40pm and 1.50pm and collided with two male pedestrians before being driven off.

The car's windscreen was damaged in the collision. The two men suffered minor injuries and did not want medical attention.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "If anyone saw what happened they are asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 and ask to speak to PC 1753 Karen Haddrell at Devizes Police Station."

Two elderly people were injured in a crash in Tilshead High Street on the same day at about 2.30pm.

The 95-year-old passenger of the blue Peugeot 107 was taken to Salisbury District Hospital after the car collided with a metal post and railings at the edge of the road on the A360 at about 2.30pm.

The woman was freed by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Amesbury and Salisbury.

She received serious injuries to her arm and internal organs while it is not thought that the 80-year-old driver, from Market Lavington, was seriously hurt.

Police have appealed for witnesses to this crash to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be left anonymously.
