YOUNGSTERS at a village primary school held their own version of Children In Need when they staged Nepal In Need in West Lavington, near Devizes.

The children at Dauntsey Academy Primary School designed, planned and organised the fundraising event in support of the Nestling Trust, who have been supporting victims of the earthquake in Nepal.

They raised nearly £2,000 to help the country they have been supporting for the past two years through the trust

which is fundraising for an orphanage.

Pupils in year six were already in communication with Nepalese children via email and when news of the earthquake broke help they wanted to help their pen pals' country.

The School Council originally planned a pyjama day and crazy hair but it soon became more elaborate and found backing from the whole school for series of stalls and sideshows.

Headteacher Robert Lakin said: "The afternoon was a tremendous success and the school would like to thank Lataca catering for the donation of all BBQ supplies and the kind pledge of funds from school lunches.

"Currently the profit raised for the Nestling Trust is nearing £2000, and we are confident that this will continue to rise over the coming days.

"I am exceptionally proud of all the pupils here at Dauntsey Academy Primary School and the support from parents was phenomenal. The desire and commitment of all involved was truly inspirational and the fantastic outcome for pupils not only by funds raised but also with the huge enjoyment witnessed within the session itself was amazing."

The school council members said: "Raising money for the Nestling Trust is vitally important to help provide medicine and food to effected communities in Nepal”

"It was a really action-packed eventful day where we all got involved to help such a worthy cause. It was Lovely to see the children and adults having a wonderful time too."
