PUPILS at St Nicholas Primary School in Bromham were put through their paces by a two-time Paralympic medallist on Thursday as part of the Sport for Schools Programme.
Ben Rushgrove, who has cerebral palsy, runs in the T36 classification and secured 100m silver at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, before grabbing 200m bronze in London four years later.
In his afternoon session with the 75 St Nicholas School pupils Ben led fitness circuits, consisting of press-ups, leg drives and star jumps, before giving an inspirational talk about his experiences and answering questions in an assembly.
PE co-ordinator Clare Kitts said: “It was a fantastic afternoon and all the children were really enthused and a bit star stuck. Ben was such a character and the talk he gave to the school was very inspirational.”
The 27-year-old, who lives and trains in Bath, visited the school as part of his work with Sport for Schools, which takes various sporting stars into more than 800 schools a year.
The project aims to inspire children to live a healthier life and through the youngsters being sponsored to take part in the event the programme has raised over £1.5m for schools and physical exercise equipment.
