THE Lawrence Society of Art has been inundated with people signing up to join after opening a pop-up gallery in the centre of Devizes.

The society, which has 140 members, opened a pop-up exhibition in the former Mason’s Fruit and Veg shop in the Brittox at the start of the month to raise awareness.

Now almost 20 new members have signed up and many more have taken applications.

Organiser Adrian Hopkinson said: “We have been inundated and had so much response to the gallery. We have had 16 new members sign up since it opened which is magic as we are open until August.

“The gallery has approximately 60 artists on show and is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am until 5pm, so come in and see what we are about.”

The Lawrence Society of Art was founded in 1953 and aims to foster interest in art through lectures, demonstrations, classes, outings, workshops and a major annual exhibition.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month from September to June in the town hall.

If you are interested in joining the society contact John Cocking on (01380) 812763 or talk to Mr Hopkinson in the pop-up gallery.
