FAMILIES and gardening enthusiasts flocked Rowdeford Garden Fair on Sunday for the Rowdeford Charity Trust’s 10th anniversary event.

More than 1,000 visitors attended and bought plants along with enjoying the entertainment on offer.

Rowdeford student Zara Walker officially opened Sunday’s event after Gazette readers voted for her to be a celebrity for a day.

Staff, students and parents from Rowdeford also got involved in a yarn bombing project and transformed trees, bridges, benches and signposts around the school with a bright array of creative displays of knitting and crochet for the fair.

Committee member Jeremy Sidmouth said: “It was a very successful day, and was our best attended fair to date.

"The yarn bombing looked fantastic, and although we don’t have the final figures yet we expect the event to have raised in excess of £10,000.”

Piglets and hens that are looked after by Rowdeford School attracted a lot of visitors, while Vaughan’s Kitchen, Bromham WI café, Rowde Cow Cafe and the Pimms tent were busy.

Children were kept entertained with a bug hunt, face painting and outdoor activities in the school’s woodland area.

The money from the event goes to the Rowdeford Charity Trust, which raises funds to further enhance the facilities at Rowdeford.

Funds from last weekend’s fair will go towards the creation of an outdoor learning centre at the school.
