THE weather held out for the 32nd Devizes PHAB (Physically Disabled and Able Bodied) wheelchair push and walk on Saturday, which raised thousands for charity.

Around 30 members took part in the push and walk, which sets off from the Nursteed Centre and follows a route around Sarum Drive, Pans Lane, The Green and then back to the centre.

The annual event has raised £2,274.50 for Devizes PHAB, plus more than £1,300 for other charities including the Old School Day Centre at Market Lavington, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Joint organiser Michael Braund, who is transport officer for Devizes & District PHAB, said: “It went brilliantly, Devizes PHAB wish to thank everyone who supported the event in anyway and we were lucky to be blessed with a lovely dry and sunny day.”

All the participants were presented medals by Jeremy Davies and Devizes town councillor Sue Evans, who are both PHAB vice presidents.

Mr Davies also judged the fancy dress and hat contests with deputy mayor Albert Wooldridge.

The fancy dress winner was Nancy Buckle as Friar Tuck and the fancy hat winner was Linda Cave with spring chicken.

The wheelchair push and walk is the main fundraising event for PHAB, which provides weekly activities and support for people with physical disabilities, along with accessible transport via its minibuses.

A presentation evening where members and friends will be presented with thank you certificates will take place on July 16 in the Nursteed Centre at 8.30pm.
