Organisers of Rowdeford Garden Fair are all set for this year’s 10th anniversary event on Sunday and have made sure it will be the best one yet.

Along with the help of Gazette readers a child from one of Wiltshire’s special schools has been chosen to be a celebrity for a day and will officially open the event at 11am on Sunday.

The fair is run in aid of Rowdeford Charity Trust, which raises funds to further enhance the facilities at Rowdeford School.

Committee member Jeremy Sidmouth said: “Rowdeford Garden Fair offers everything for the gardening enthusiast with leading growers selling a range of plants, including plants from the school’s own walled garden, as well as garden furniture and ornaments.

“There is plenty to keep the family happy with magician Jack Stephens to entertain the children, a bug hunt, face painting, even a visit to the piglets and hens that now live at the school, as well as other farm animals. Children can also have a go at some fun activities in Rowdeford’s wonderful woodland.”

The garden fair has also had a boost of £200 sponsorship from sausage makers debbie&andrew’s for a Rowdeford yarn bombing project.

Staff, students and parents from Rowdeford school have all got involved in the street art project which involved making colourful outside displays of knitting and crochet.

Yarn bomb organiser Kate Walling, coordinator for Literacy, Communication and Interaction at Rowdeford School, said: “The local community has already donated a magnificent amount of wool, but the sponsorship from debbie&andrew’s means we can really push the boat out with colours and textures to make even more of an impact.”

Ian Bagnall of debbie&andrew’s, which sponsors many community projects across the country, said: “We think yarn bombing is a brilliant way attracting attention and raising more money for local special needs schools and we are delighted our sponsorship is helping.”

Work on decorating the site began last Friday with the yarn bombing team aiming to transform trees, bridges, benches and signposts around the school with a bright array of creative displays.

Funds from this weekend’s event will go towards the creation of an outdoor learning centre. Plans for the centre are well under way and can be seen at the fair.

Entrance on Sunday is £4, with children under 16 free. As the site is on school grounds, no dogs are permitted.
