A FRIEND of Max Lewis appeared in court today charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

Max, 19, from Baldham, Seend, died in a collision on Forest Lane, Melksham, on November 15 last year.

Daniel Brian Palmer, 22, of Bowmans Court, Melksham, was driving the red Citroen Saxo in which he was a passenger.

Palmer was himself taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.

Today he spoke at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court only to identify himself.

He was told to attend Swindon Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on May 1 and was given unconditional bail.

There were two other vehicles involved in the incident and Palmer will be joined at court by Connor Forester, 18, of Meadow Road, Melksham, and Julian Drew, 26, of Littlejohn Avenue, Melksham.

They both appeared before magistrates in Swindon earlier this month, jointly charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and were remanded in custody until their appearance at crown.

Forester is also charged with driving without a licence, and Drew with driving while disqualified.

Max attended the former George Ward School in Melksham and spent a year at Wiltshire College in Chippenham studying engineering.
