Cameras rolled in Devizes when a crew filming the BBC show Antiques Road Trip called in looking for a bargain.

Antique expert Raj Bisram spent some time trawling through the goods at Crowman Antiques in Northgate Street before deciding on something that he would later take to auction.

Vicky Heaton-Renshaw, who runs the shop with John Chapman, said: "We aren't allowed to say what he bought but we let him have it for a good price.

"A bit of bartering went on but we settled on a fair price. He was very nice and complimentary about our shop."

Mr Bisram, who runs his own antique business in Kent, is a regular on the BBC show which pits experts against each other to see who can make the most money at auction at the end of a couple of days buying items from shops in different parts of the country.

It is the second time that Crowman, which opened in 2012, has featured in the show. Mrs Heaton-Renshaw said: "The BBC never tells us when our snippet is going to be aired but when we were on before expert Charlie Hanson visited and we have seen that episode a couple of times on the TV.

"Raj was here for a couple of hours but we didn't draw a big a crowd of onlookers. There was just a camera man and a sound guy."

Crowman Antiques took over one of the oldest retail units in Devizes when the business partners bought the former Weston's tobacconists which dates back to the 17th century.

They were thrilled to find such a historic setting for their antiques. The shop specialises in country furniture, pottery, porcelain, metalware, taxidermy and unusual artefacts.

It has now spread into the nearby Black Swan Hotel which is decorated with items from the shop and others are for sale outside.

Mr Chapman's wife and sister-in-law Amelia and Florence run the pub.
