LANDLORDS Bob and Tracy Chandler are calling time on their lives as publicans almost 30 years after they first entered the trade.

The couple, who for the past 24 years, have run the Westbrook Inn near Bromham are looking forward to spending more time in their holiday home in Portugal and travelling to other parts of the world.

Mr Chandler, who celebrated his 67th birthday on Sunday and his wife, 51, started their pub life at the Bell at West Overton where they spent five years before moving to to Westbrook.

Mrs Chandler said: "We have made quite a lot of changes and improvements to the pub both inside and out during our time here."

The pub now has a traditional bar area with a timbered curved bar servery, a 30-cover dining area and a separate restaurant room seating 26.

Mrs Chandler said that they had enjoyed their time in the trade but felt now was the time to take life a little easier.

She said: "Being publicans is a very busy job so we want to be able to go to our place in Portugal more and to travel generally.

"I expect for the first few months we will sit at home twiddling our thumbs wondering what to do but I am sure we will learn to enjoy relaxing."

She said food was an important part of making the pub successful and the couple shared the duties in the kitchen. They have introduced a pie night on Thursdays which is popular.

They also have live music. The next act appearing will be vocalist and guitarist Ray Jones on Easter Monday from 1pm to 6pm.

The couple, who at the moment live above the pub, want to stay in Wiltshire and will be looking at homes in the market towns near to Bromham.

The pub is on the market with Christie and Co with a guide price of £395,000.
