Composer Simon May, who made his name by writing the theme tune for television shows including EastEnders, is helping to organise a concert with choirs from the Devizes area.

Mr May, who grew up in Etchilhampton, will conduct the Super Choir at a concert for 500 people at Dauntsey’s School on July 9.

He has joined forces with Devizes Rotary Club to organise the evening and so far eight primaries and two senior schools have signed up.

Mr May was a Dauntsey’s School pupil and Cambridge graduate, whose early career saw him performing his own songs on Top of the Pops, including his 1970s hit song, Summer of My Life.

The concert will co-incide with the launch of his new album and publication of an autobiography.

Schools already signed up for the Super Choir event are: Dauntsey Academy Primary School, West Lavington; Five Lanes CE Primary School, Potterne; Nursteed Comm-unity Primary; Southbroom St James Academy; Urchfont CofE Primary; St Joseph’s Catholic Primary; Wansdyke Primary; St Barnabas Prim-ary, Market Lavington; Devizes School and Daunt-sey’s School, West Lavington.

Tickets are £5 from Devizes Books in Sidmouth Street. Gaiger Bros is the main sponsor and there is additional sponsorship from Lidl and Cross Manufacturing.
