A by-election is likely to be held in Devizes on March 19 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Tory Geoff Brewer.
Nominations for the south ward seat must be received at County Hall in Trowbridge by tomorrow. The Conservatives and the Guardians have indicated they will field candidates. Mr Brewer resigned in January saying he wanted to give his energy to the Green Party in the run up to the General Election.
He also felt he was not making a difference as a councillor.
He said: “During the time I have served as a Devizes Town Council member I have only fielded one enquiry from a ward member and that one I ended up passing to environmental health at Wiltshire Council.”
Since his resignation he has campaigned for better parking at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, and to get younger people to vote.
