CHILDREN at Southbroom Infants’ School in Devizes have been collecting their pennies to raise money for a special needs home in South Africa.
Staff and children raised more than £200 which is being sent to the Rekgathile Special Needs Home in the Siyafunda Wildlife Game Reserve. It was part of the school’s make a difference week which also included tree planting and a litter pick.
After decorating a map of Africa with the coins they had collected the children then had a video chat with one of the volunteers.
Headteacher Caroline Jackson said: “It was a great way for the children to learn more about the home.
“We are hoping to have another video chat soon so the children can see what their money was used on.”
The Rekgathile Special Needs Home is a small house which takes in children with special needs from families who cannot care for them.
