ALCOHOL could be sold at Hillworth Stores in Devizes for 17 hours a day if the shop is granted a new licence at the eastern area licensing sub committee on Monday.

The shop, which is now owned by Central Stores, can currently only sell alcohol from 8am until 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 8.30pm on Sundays.

The company has applied to Wiltshire Council for a change to its licence and to change its opening hours to 5.30am until 11pm daily.

But Devizes town councillors have objected to the application, asking for the licence and opening time to be delayed until 8am.

Currently 11 other premises in the town have late-night licences.
